Receipt Printer
Setting Up Your Receipt Printer:
To get your receipt printer working, you must first have Windows recognize your printer. To do this, add your printer using Control Panels - Add Printer.

You may install the printer using the provided drivers from the manufacturer, but sometimes these drivers are hard to find. So for a quicker way is to use the Generic - Text Only driver that is already included in Windows.

Note: The Generic Driver may not work for all receipt printers.

Setting Up The Generic Driver:
Click Start | Control Panel | Printers and Faxes. If you do not see Control Panel after you click Start, click Start | Settings | Control Panel | Printers and Faxes.
  • On the Printers and Faxes window, double-click Add a Printer.
  • On the Add Printer Wizard window, click Next.
  • On the Local or Network window, check Local printer attached to this computer and uncheck Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer. Click Next to continue.
  • On the Select a Printer Port window, select USB001(Virtual printer port for USB) from the Use the following port: drop-down list. Click Next to continue.
  • On the Install Printer Software window, click Generic from the Manufacturer pane. Click Generic / Text Only from the Printers pane. Click Next to continue.
  • On the Name Your Printer window, use the Generic / Text Only printer name in the Printer name: field. In the Do you want to use this printer as the default printer field, click No. Click Next to continue.
  • On the Printer Sharing window, click Do not share this printer. Click Next to continue.
  • On the Print Test Page window, click No. You do not want to print a text page. Click Next to continue.
  • Click Finish to finish adding your printer.
    If Windows displays the Print to File window, click Cancel.

    PointOS Station Settings:
    After the receipt printer has been installed in Windows, you will need to set it up in PointOS. The software loads all printers on startup, so if it is currently running it will need to be restarted.

    Using The Star Network Utility:
    To setup a Star network printer, after you have connected it via ethernet to your network, you must assign it a unique IP address.

    To do this, download and install this tool:
    Star Network Printer Utility

    Install this software, and run SetupIfbdHeHw.exe.

    From this utility, click the Search IFBD-HE/HW button and select your network printer from the list.

    Then set a unique IP Address by typing it into the IP Address for ARP Setting box.

    Finally click the Do ARP and PING button.
    Write down this IP Address, you will need it later.

    Note: This only needs to be done once, and can be done from any computer on the network.


    Star Network Utility
    Installing The Network Printer:

    Once you have assigned an IP Address to your printer, go to Control Panels - Printers - Add New Printer.

    From here click add a local printer.

    On the next page click the Create a new port checkbox, and select Standard TCP/IP Port.

    Enter the IP Address you assigned to the printer in the steps above under the Hostname or IP address box and click next.
    Do not change the IP port name box.

    When prompted for Device Type, choose the Custom selection and then click Next.
    You do not have to click the Settings button.

    From here follow the steps to install the Generic Driver, selecting Generic from the Manufacturer list and Generic / Text Only from the Printers list.

    Click the Next, and name your network printer.

    Do no share out this printer, however you will have to follow these steps from all computers that access the printer. It should only be printed to directly by IP Address.
