About Maintenance:
The maintenance area allows you to keep your system running fast and efficiently. You can archive sales, speed up and back up the database, and delete unnecessary or sensitive data such as credit cards.

Maintenance Menu
Stations Manager:
Stations manager allows you to shut down or force a restart of all connected stations. To backup or compact the database you must have exclusive rights to the database, so all other stations must be shut down. Additionally, most system changes such as menu items require all stations to restart.

Stations Manager
Disconnect Stations:
Disconnect will force all stations to stop receiving or sending information to or from the database. This is required when backing up or compacting the database. It may take up to a minute to disconnect all stations.

Shutdown All Stations:

Shutdown all stations forces all stations to disconnect and the BarOS program to exit. This is useful when upgrading the system. This function may take up to two minutes to shutdown all stations.

Backup Database:

Backup database allows you to create a copy of your database. This protects you if your computer ever becomes broken or corrupted. To backup the database you must have exclusive rights. Use the disconnect stations or shutdown all stations functions to remove access from other stations to the database. It is recommended that you backup at least once a week.

You can also set the system to backup automatically.

See
Maintain Database for more information.

Database Cleanup:
You can remove unnecessary or unwanted information from the database by using the database cleanup function. Removing unnecessary data will speed up your system. It is recommended that you clean every 6 to 12 months.

Because this data loss is permanent, you should always backup before deleting any data.

See
Maintain Database for more information.

Clean Scanner:
If you are experiencing any problems with your connected id scanner, you can use the clean scanner function. Use the cleaning paper that came with your scanner, and follow the manufacturer’s directions.

Calibrate Scanner:

Upon first use of you id scanner, you will need to calibrate it. This is done using the calibration paper that came with your scanner. You can also download and print out a new calibration sheet from the manufacturer’s website.

Archive Orders:

To speed up the system, you should archive orders. This will not delete any information, but the orders will be moved to an archive part of the database. Doing this will have no effect on your reporting. However, you can only archive closed orders.

This can be set to be done automatically when auto compacting the database.

See
Maintain Database for more information.

Archive Items:
When you archive orders, you should also archive old items. Like archive orders, this will not delete any data or effect any reporting in the system. This should be done as part of routine maintenance.

This can be set to be done automatically when auto compacting the database.

See
Maintain Database for more information.

Delete PreAuths:
To keep your customer’s credit card information safe, you can delete all credit card pre-authorization information in the system. This is done automatically on compact, but if not using compact database, this should be done frequently.

Remove Credit Info:

You can remove old credit card information from closed sales, by using this function. This will keep your customer’s credit card information safe. This is done as part of the compact database function, but should be used as part of routine maintenance.

Update All Music:

Update all music will search through Windows Media Player and add it’s songs to the BarOS database. This can be used when you have added new songs.

See
Music Setup for more information.

Delete All Music:
Delete all music removes all music information from the database. Removing music may have adverse effects on customer’s song lists, so unless you are planning on starting over with all new music, this is not recommended.

See
Music Setup for more information.
